(More customer reviews)I received the Northern Industrial horizontal/vertical bandsaw last week and set it up over the weekend. There were no serious difficulties in assembling the stand or mounting the saw. However the saw as configured was unusable. With the saw gib supports adjusted up high enough to allow the band to run properly on the wheels the saw could not drop low enough to cut clear through the workpiece before the husk casting hit the switch guard plates.I ground off the two metal switch guards to clear the husk casting but then the hinged back plate still hit the base so the saw still could not drop enough to clear the workpiece and turn off the switch. After four hours of grinding, bending and switch bracket rework I was finally able to adjust and trim the saw guides and alignment to make accurate cuts in 2" x 4" try stock.I was aware of the risks of buying cheap and don't mind doing my own updating and improvements but the problems mentioned above are not the kind any responsible vendor should ship out.The cheap saw blade that came on the unit lasted only a couple of cuts in mild steel before it was toast. My other observations relate to simple changes that I will make that couldn't cost much to include such as: non-rotating nut plates underneath so you don't need two wrenches and a third hand to adjust the angle fence,or a knob on the screw that holds the band cover in place so it doesn't take a screwdriver on small black screw that that likes to fall on the floor and get lost every time the cover has to be swung out to remount the band, or a simple thumb screw on the stock stop rather than a recessed set screw that assures you looking around the shop for an allen wrench and then trying three before you get the right size, So.....I would not recommend this saw to anyone not interested or capable of re-engineering it before it can be used.In my case, I can make it suitable but it will never be the saw my old Dayton 3Z3 is.
