A couple years ago I bought this opener to replace a 20-year-old failing unit.I was very impressed with the quality of the manufacturing, design, smooth operation and ease of installation.Particularly impressive was the installation documentation. It is written in clear and detailed English (as a first language). The illustrations were very well done and plentiful. It left no guesswork and all steps were clear.

I was so impressed that when the second opener needed replacement I bought another Genie.I just finished installing it.

DELTA 36-981 10-Inch Left Tilt 1-1/2-HP Contractor Saw Review

DELTA 36-981 10 inch Left Tilt 1-1/2-HP Contractor Saw
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this saw a few months ago and haven't really had an opportunity to exercise it to its full potential, but I have made a ton of rip cuts in yellow pine already and it has done a fine job.

For the price it's a wonderful saw. I paid $540 for the whole shootin' match, saw and fence at Lowe's on clearance. I would DEFINATELY recommend it to anyone.

PROS...

- Solid cast iron table. I haven't performed the legendary nickel test yet, but I'm not cutting coins anyway.
- Almost everything was properly aligned out of the box. Very few adjustments had to made to the blade or fence.
- It comes with a blade. It aint much, but that's more than Jet has to offer.
- The mobile base casters are a nice touch. Makes moving this thing a breeze.
- Wow it's quiet for a saw.
- The fence is smooth and stays aligned really well. It required more tweeking than anything, but some inteligent features make that easy enough to do.

Cons...
- Assembly takes quite some time. The instructions and illustrations don't always match the real world. Apparently Delta re-engineered this saw after manufacturing a lot of the pieces for it. So, don't worry if you have spare parts at the end of assembly. It probably means you got a newer saw. The discrepencies in instructions weren't major. If you're not inteligent enough to figure your way around them, you probably don't need to be using a tool that can severely damamge and dismember parts of your anatomy!
- The blade will not completely descend beneath the table surface. In other words, at least some portion of the blade projects above the table ALWAYS! On my saw, blade only reaches about 1/16 of an inch above the surface, but my father-in-law's will only drop to about 3/8" above surface level. I'm sure this can be fixed, but in the mean time those shallow dados are gonna be tough for him.
- We had to tap the holes in one of the cast iron leaves so we could bolt it to the rest of the table. In case you're wondering 7/16 fine thread taps aren't exactly easy to find.
- The fasteners come in standard threads with metric heads. Yes, that's right. Apparently Delta insisted on using English thread pitches, but used premade metric blanks in China or something. So get your 14 mm wrench ready for those 3/8 bolts, and good luck finding replacement pieces in town.
- Some other minor issues...The cast iron leaves are a lot of work to get perfectly aligned. You definately need 2 people or a lot of clamps and a good floor jack for this part. When you install the rail for the fence you have to remove the power switch, but you can't put it back where it orignially was. Be ready to get a little creative on finding a new home for it. Those dag um casters and legs are a royal pain to bolt to the saw, but they're worth it the first time you have to roll the saw around. A good set of gear wrenches will save you about 30 minutes here.

Overall, for the price I couldn't be happier. I expect that I will be content with this saw for some time.

SawStop Contractor Saw CNS175-SFA30 10-Inch w/ 30-Inch Aluminum Extrus Review

SawStop Contractor Saw CNS175-SFA30 10 inch w/ 30 inch Aluminum Extrus
Average Reviews:

I bought this to replace an older craftsman table saw that had a bent arbor. First off, this is a heavy saw. After it's all assembled and after you add the cast iron wings, it's almost 400lbs. So make sure you get the move-able base to go with it.

The saw itself works great! I have never been able to cut stock so precise. The insert is deep enough so you can make your own zero clearance inserts. The riving knife is extremely easy to take in and out, because they're are no tools required. The fence allows you to reset the ruler starting up against the blade. So if you add a sacrificial fence, you won't have to second guess your measurements. When decided between the Aluminum and Professional T-Bar fence, make sure to get the professional one. It's very heavy duty and much beefier than a beisemeyer table fence. I haven't noticed any deflection what so ever.

Overall, this table saw is incredible, and I'm very happy with my purchase. I also have the peace of mind that my kids won't have a accident when they use it later down the road.

One last thing - Make sure to put a good layer of paste wax on it to prevent the cast iron from rusting. because my old table saw was already pretty rusty, I forgot this step, and end up regretting it. Some steel wool and a couple coats of Johnson's Paste Wax have taken care of it.

This is a quality hybrid saw.The setup is straight forward and relatively simple although it does take two people because of the weight.Once setup, the saw required just a little adjustment for proper parallelism and accuracy of the blade and the fence.

Cuts are smooth and the saw has plenty of power for the home woodworker.

SHOP FOX W1678 5 HP 26-Inch Drum Sander Review

SHOP FOX W1678 5 HP 26 inch Drum Sander
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First off I have had experience with wide belt sanders and I wasn't sure if a drum sander was going to be as good.I run a small one man cabinet shop with limited space so I was looking at getting a 15" open end wide belt. The price tag on the wide belt was a little more than I could afford at the time but I had a friend that was selling this machine for $800 so I took it with out complaint.

WOAH, it's a lot bigger in person than what I expected from the pictures and boy is it heavy but even after being used for two years in a cabinet shop it was in perfect condition, just a little dusty.I put new j-hook sandpaper on it and it works great.

There are a few differences between this and the wide belts I've used.A wide belt will leave a slightly smoother surface because the belt oscillates and the drums do not.Widebelts also have better dust collection and it takes less time to change out belts.YOU WILL NEED a 2hp canister dust collector AT LEAST or the dust will kill you!I'm using a 1-1/2 hp shop fox bag dust collector and I cough up junk every morning. It sucks, anyway...
This 5hp double drum sander can take off more material during a pass than a single drum 5 hp widebelt.I don't think the difference in finish matters much because you'll have to hit both with a random orbital sander to clean it up anyways.
If you are not in a constant production environment and you have good dust collection don't waste too much money on a widebelt, get this double drum sander instead.

If your still unsure about having enough power I use this sander on solid hickory panel doors constantly and it never has a problem.I love using it to clean up burl!

Dollar for dollar you get more from your drum sander than a widebelt if you ask me and if your doing solid side panels on your base cabinets the 26" capacity is perfect.

Makita LS1013FL 15 Amp 10-Inch Dual Bevel Compound Sliding Miter Saw with Laser and Fluorescent Light Review

Makita LS1013FL 15 Amp 10 inch Dual Bevel Compound Sliding Miter Saw with Laser and Fluorescent Light
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I needed a saw when my old DeWalt 708 slider was in the shop for bearing replacement.I considered buying another DeWalt but the new model is not as nice as the old 708.I have the opportunity to use all of the comparable high end saws that my co-workers use.I did not choose the Hitachi because the dinky table makes it difficult to cut wide stock accurately. The laser on the Hitachi does not shine on the leading edge of the piece either.
The Makita laser is better because it will shine on the front edge of the piece. That makes it nice when cutting bevels.Recently I was cutting beveled siding and I needed the piece to be cut with the finish side down so the exposed cut would be square.I needed to mark the bottom of the leading edge. When using the Hitachi, the laser was not shining on the edge so I had to line the cut the old way by bending over and sighting down the blade.
The laser on the Makita will not move far enough over to line exactly on the mark.It needs to move another 32nd of an inch to line up. I may be able to fix that with a file when I have time. You can easily move the laser to either side of the cut.
The saw was easy to calibrate. It did not need much. The 0 degree bevel was perfect out of the box.The 45 degree right and left just needed to be tuned a hair.
The blade that comes with the saw makes very smooth cuts. There is no need to buy a Forrest blade like I had to with my DeWalt.I miss the high fence that comes on the Dewalt. The Makita only has a high fence on one side. You can buy a high fence for the right side.
The guard works nicely and you can see through it by means of a slot.No more bending over to see the blade on the mark. The Hitachi does not have a slot so you have to bend down to see the blade on the mark after the guard is old and opaque. Because of this there are some carpenters who remove the guard and that is not good.
The dust collection on the Makita is very good. The bag fills up frequently. The dust collection on my DeWalt is non existent.I would prefer a zipper on the dust bag instead of the slotted tube.
The table on the Makita is one of the nicer tables out there. It is very wide and stable. It swings smoothly and locks with a quick twist. The saw bevel release has been improved from the earlier Makitas.Youno longer have to bump the saw hard to move it out of the 0 degree detent.
The soft start prevents the saw from jumping when it starts up.I always wait a moment with any saw before plunging the blade.
The little light, although not very bright is a nice feature when working inside.
This saw is much lighter than my DeWalt 708.
I have had this saw for about two months now and so far it is a pleasure to use.No complaints.Five Stars
